EXCLUSIVE! Shining Soul II English Screenshots!

EXCLUSIVE! Shining Soul II English Screenshots!

Well, I’d hoped to get a lot more online today (including the contest results & a new contest – will do ASAP, sorry for the delay!), but once again things have ended up busier than expected. If I can get anything else up here next week (despite my other half being home ;)), I shall of course do so!
I received my preview copy of Shining Soul II from Atlus a few days ago, and in fact on the day I got it, I couldn’t tear myself away from it! As you probably know, I thoroughly enjoyed the game in Japanese, but now I’m playing it in English I’m enjoying it all the more!

The game seems to be fully translated now, with only some minor bugs left to be worked out. Although some of the names have been altered in the translation (for example, Princess Cocotte is now Princess Camille, the warrior Alex is now Eric), there don’t seem to be any glaring problems with this. At the moment it’s seeming a little easier than the Japanese release, but this could just be because I’m getting good at the game from playing it so much. I’m only a few areas into this copy so far, so I can’t judge the difficulty too well at this point.

Being a preview, unfinished copy of the game, there are all sorts of neat extras which of course won’t be in the final version – little guys who ask me if I want to change what the shops sell, or open up all the areas etc 😉 Obviously features for testing. I expect this is quite a common thing, but it rather tickled me to find this stuff. You’ll see the “badgermen” (as I call them – it’s actually the Card Master sprite) who ask these questions in in one of the shots below, though not actually being spoken to in it.

I’m typing up all the details etc as I play through this version (despite being able to get to any point in the game almost immediately, I want to play it properly), in order to make a new site all about it 🙂

Atlus have given me permission to post as much as I’d like in preview information, so expect more in the coming weeks 🙂 Looks like they’ve done a really good job on this game, as with the original. Quite exciting to have this as an exclusive, too – I don’t think any other sites have anything about it – yet 😉 Wonder who else’ll pick up these screenshots for use? *lol*

Well, I’ll not bore you with more blathering at the moment – I’ll leave you with the translated intro text (I’m sure it’s okay for me to post that much – don’t expect the whole script until long after the release though!) and a half dozen screenshots to drool over 😉

The Dark Dragon was defeated and Light returned to the land.
The four heroes were hailed for banishing the Darkness.
The people were thankful that peace had returned, and the legend of the Hero of Light was passed down.
But as time passed and people’s lives improved, the legend was forgotten.
So, too, did their gratitude fade, and people began to take Light for granted.
In a peace filled town, an old man stood preaching a seditious prophecy…
“Brothers and sisters, look! The crystal is cloudy!
According to legend, Darkness was defeated!
But, Light will grow out of control, eventually giving rise to Darkness once again.
The clouding of the crystal foretells this future.
The balance of the world will soon collapse!”
The old prophet continued to speak to the passerby, and his voice rang through the town square.
But, those who had forgotten about the legend took no heed of the prophet’s words.
Sadly, at that very moment, the end of peace and prosperity was near.
As the prophet had warned, the balance between Darkness and Light had been lost.
Light had become too strong, and Darkness stirred again.
An alchemist, a servant of Darkness, appeared…
His name was Gillespie.
Gillespie lured the old prophet to the outskirts of town, shattered the cyrstal that told of the Darkness, and robbed the world of one virtuous old man.
As a member of a Dark order known as the Chaos Knights, Gillespie had another mission to complete…
And so, he traveled to Klantol Castle…
He cunningly befriended the knight Deatharte, whom King Marcel trusted above all others, and he gave to Deatharte the “Forbidden Fruit.” With that acomplished, Gillespie left those lands.
Deatharte was suspicious of Gillespie and so he did not eat the fruit, until one day… when his curiousity got the better of him… …and he tasted the “Forbidden Fruit”…

I’ll put up more as soon as I can 🙂 Hope the above is enough for now!

Remember, no release date has as yet been confirmed. All I can say at this point is that the date which was previously mentioned on Atlus’ website by mistake (December this year) was not correct. Rest assured that as soon as I can say more, I will! I’ll make a full review of the game available nearer the time of release.

Once again, huge thanks to Atlus for all their help and support! You guys are the best 🙂

Shining Soul II to see US release!

Shining Soul II to see US release!

I’ve been waiting for some time to be able to announce this 😉 Atlus, who recently released Shining Soul in the USA (which seems to be selling quite well Stateside!) have been working on Shining Soul II for a US release. No release date has been specified at this time, however the date accidentally posted on their website some time ago (which I know at least a few of you saw) is not correct. I should be receiving a preview copy of the game in the next week, and Atlus have given me permission to post as much as I want to as a preview! So, I’ll try my best to get some good stuff together for you all! Once again, huge thanks to Atlus for being so very helpful! I’ve recently had time to complete the Japanese release of Shining Soul II, so I very much look forward to playing it in English! I’m really loving the game (playing Advanced mode at the moment), and intend to make a guide to it in the near future!

In SFC news, the Forums are currently down, and will be for some time, due to a problematic night involving renegade moderators and more. I’m not looking forward to dealing with that 🙁 If I’m back from my day out early enough today, I’ll try to get the regular SFC update done, as I’m pretty sure we’re due for a new contest etc about now 😉

More Sc2 translation & SFIII Site News!

More Sc2 translation & SFIII Site News!

Damon D has once again been working on the translation of Scenario 2, and has finished off the villager’s conversations in the Dusty Village script section.

In other Shining Force III news, you might have noticed recently that The Home of the Shining Force (Wolfgang’s great site) has vanished! Unfortunately, his host was recently shut down and he has had to relocate. But, as we’ve almost come to expect from Wolfgang, a new URL brings with it a new addition to his site, and this time is no exception – he’s working on a new Shining Force III site, with absolutely loads of pictures from in the game itself. I’ve yet to update the links in the database, and don’t have time right now, but I’m sure you can find your way there from this new link to his site! Great work Wolfgang, can’t wait to see how the SFIII site progresses in the coming weeks while you finish it off!

Wolfgang’s Site

More Scenario 2 stuff!

More Scenario 2 stuff!

More thanks are owed to Damon D today, as he’s now supplied his revised summary of Scenario 2’s first chapter! More will be added as he supplies them, so keep an eye on the site! Damon has also revised the villagers’ text for the Dusty Village script section.

More Scenario 2 Translation…

More Scenario 2 Translation…

It seems the interest in translating the missing parts of Shining Force III’s script is on the up again! Some of you may well remember DamonD, the chap who wrote up summaries of the events in Scenarios 2 and 3 some years back. Well, he’s back on the scene, and has finished up the missing section of Dusty Village script, and is also working on revising his old chapter summaries, to be posted here at SFC! Great work Damon! Thanks also to our dear Aspartate for doing a couple of revisions to Damon’s translation. If anyone reading this is good with Japanese and has an interest in helping out, Damon is trying to get something organised in this topic at the SFC Forums!

In Shining news, it seems Shining Soul may have finally hit the shops in the USA, or at least it would seem from my visit to GameStop’s site this morning 😉 If you haven’t already seen it, SFC’s review is here.

And last, but not least, I shall try to get a decent update together in the near future 🙂 Already have a comic strip in mind, just haven’t had the chance to get it together. Time really does fly as you get older, I can’t believe how quickly the weeks are going (between updates ;)).

Shining Soul USA Release delayed!

Shining Soul USA Release delayed!

It seems Atlus were a little ahead of themselves, announcing that the game has been shipped out to retailers! The game will, it seems, not be going out until September 23rd – a delay of one week. Meanwhile, Atlus have put up their official Shining Soul site which, though pretty, is fairly limited in it’s content. Hopefully they plan on adding to it 🙂

Various Updates

Various Updates

  • New midis for Shining the Holy Ark, Shining Force III Scenarios 1, 3 & Premium Disc, Shining Wisdom and Shining Force CD, courtesy of Magnus Andersson.
  • New Shining Force midi courtesy of Andrew Nguyen.
  • Collectables & collection updated.
  • Some new links added to the database, including this rather cool piece of Shining Miscellany from Aspartate!

Still more updates to come 🙂

No news as yet on the forthcoming Shining Force release for GBA, although I have contacted Sega and THQ. I’ll continue to try to get us some more info!
Also, big thanks to my good friend Rei for being so kind as to try out that odd Famicom ‘Final Conflict’ cart I picked up. He’s grabbed some screenshots for us, and it seems that the game is nothing more than a mislabeled cart – the pictures are available here. Well, at least it didn’t cost too much, eh? Thanks again, Rei!

Nothing else to report at this time, and since we have another viewing of our flat in the next couple of hours, I’d best go tidy up some more 😉

Europe & Australia GBA Shining Releases

Europe & Australia GBA Shining Releases

Once again, the news breaks while I’m not online! *lol* But nonetheless, it’s wonderful to hear, and I’d first up like to thank KiwiDomingoBleu for being the first (of many ;)) to email me about this!

Major gaming sites have reported that THQ have entered into a deal with Sega Europe to publish several titles on the GBA, which include Shining Force and Shining Soul II. I gotta say, I for one am very excited about this! Two new Shining titles on one platform – way to go, Sega! When I first read about this, I assumed it was to be a remake of the original Shining Force, but on reading IGN’s article, it seems it will indeed be a new game (or at least a total remake of the original) which is in development (by an unknown company) and that more may be revealed at the Tokyo Games Show (which starts on September 26th).

Whether both of these titles will make it to the US is as yet unknown… makes me wish I could make some further comments, but at this time, I can’t 😉 Hopefully in a few days I’ll be allowed to say something *lol*

Time to go and drop Sega Japan, Sega Europe & THQ a line, methinks!

Regular Update

Well, I finally managed to get a decent update done! *lol*

So, today we have:

  • Contest winner announced
  • New Contest launched

In addition to sending the Shining Soul II translation/guide, Aspartate also sent me this great link, comparing the credits of various Shining games – you might enjoy taking a look!

Lots of other stuff to do now, but there should be more updates soon!

Exclusive: Shining Soul USA Release Review!

Exclusive: Shining Soul USA Release Review!

Indeed folks, I’ve finally had the time to finish off the game, take some pics and get the review together!

Read the review here 🙂

Many, many thanks to Atlus for providing me with a demo cart! I think this is the first review of the US release. If it’s not, then damnit, I should’ve gotten it finished & typed up sooner 😉

I’ll try to get some more updates done tomorrow – had an unexpected workload this morning, which has made me fall behind again 🙁

Shining Soul II Credits & Summary

Shining Soul II Credits & Summary

First up, my apologies – I’ve lost track of the days this week and forgot I was due to do a regular update at SFC today! I’ll try to do it tomorrow. Things are a little hectic here, as my boyfriend and I are trying to sell our flat, and hoping to buy a house – expensive things, those! So, there’s lots going on! Hehe, if you’ve got a few grand to spare, you know where to send it 😉 Just kidding!

Aspartate has kindly provided us with the production credits for Shining Soul II, along with a translation of the game’s introduction for the summary page. I hope to have her permission to include her rough translation of the game’s events as a sort of script here, to help those playing the game who can’t read Japanese 🙂

Myself, I’ve not had time to play much futher into SSII, though I’d like to! I’m getting a review together for the US release of Shining Soul first, since I’m sure Atlus will be keen to ensure that I’ve kept my end of the review copy deal 😉

I’ve also got a few new items to add to the collectables page and to my collection – one of which is a rather curious item – a Famicom (Nintendo/NES) cartridge that has a Final Conflict label on it. Since I don’t have a Famicom, I can’t try it out just yet. It may be the hacked Chinese language version of Shining Force, it may be some kind of version of Final Conflict, or it could just be a very mislabeled cart! I’m hoping that it’s contents may be useful to those involved in the various Final Conflict remake projects, as it’s nigh-on impossible to get the actual damage calculations and other vital data/formulae out of the Game Gear game/ROM. Perhaps this apparent conversion to Famicom code/format will be easier to get the data from!
